As police continue to investigate the sudden death of a Reading first-grader, loved ones showed their support for grieving family members.
Seven-year-old Josiah Boggs, also known as Jo-Jo, was found dead, hanging from a closet rod with a curtain around his neck at his home on S. 17th Street in Reading, Saturday afternoon, police said.
During a candlelight vigil Monday, attended by about 100 friends and family, the victim's mother explained what happened to Jo-Jo.
"It was two children that was brothers, that loved each other, dearly, playing, that turned into a freak accident," said Renee Robinson, Jo-Jo's mother.
Parents also add they were not in the room at the time of the accident.
Police are still conducting key interviews, investigators said, to help them figure out exactly how Jo-Jo died.
Meanwhile major family plans have been canceled.
Jo-Jo's parents were scheduled to renew their wedding vows next week, and Jo-Jo was supposed to be one of the ring bearers.
Now, the family is struggling to give Jo-Jo a proper funeral.
A plastic jar was passed around throughout the crowd at the vigil, and loved ones gave what they could and promised to stick by the family.
"We come together when there's good. We come together when there's bad. And that's what I want the mother to know today," one neighbor said.
Jo-Jo's funeral will be held in Philadelphia, his parents said. Date and time will be announced later.
