The Berks County DA says a Reading police officer was justified in shooting a man during a domestic dispute.

READING, Pa. -

Reading police were justified in shooting an armed man during a domestic dispute, according to an initial review of the incident by Berks County District Attorney John Adams.

The incident happened around 5:15 Saturday morning when police responded to a report of a domestic dispute in the 200 block of North Fourth Street.

Officials say Brandon Durham, 20, pointed a shotgun at police, at which time an officer fired twice and struck him once in the chest.

Officials says Durham was treated at Reading Hospital and is now in police custody.

Police said they are currently reviewing the incident to determine what charges will be filed against the suspect.

At this point, Adams said his office is not planning to further investigate the incident.

"Our initial review is that the officer's use of his weapon in this case was justified," Adams said in a phone interview.
