NFL stars build parks

FLEETWOOD, Pa. -

They're famous for what they do on the football field, but two NFL stars are giving back to their where they grew up in Berks Co. this weekend.

In Fleetwood, they're literally moving mountains -- of dirt -- buildimg an entire playground in just one day.

"It's our project for 2013," said Christine Anderton, project organizer.  "If you take a look around, there are hundreds of people here."

But it's two of those people that are raising some eyebrows.

"This community really needs a park," said Chad Henne.

That's Chad Henne -- THE Chad Henne who's quarterback for the Jacksonville Jaguars.  Before that, he was a standout at Wilson High.  He, and fellow Wilson alum John Gilmore, who played tight end for the Saints, created a foundation to build parks in Berks Co.

"This is a brand-new playground from the ground up," said Gilmore.

Anderton, who runs the foundation, added:  "Our mission is to revitalize parks and recreational facilities in Berks County."

Henne said they picked Fleetwood because of overwhelming community support.

"Once we build this, it's really their job to take care of the parks when we're gone," said Henne.

Gilmore added:  "It's in a community -- a community that wanted to take ownership of it and was really willing to get involved."

They say, "You can never go home again."  But these two gridiron greats are proving that saying wrong.

"Building parks is really the stepping stone for everybody to get communication and get the community going," said Henne.

Fleetwood is actually the sixth park the Henne-Gilmore Foundation has built in the past four years.  They also give out two college scholarships every year.
