Missing man found dead

A Berks County man with Alzheimer's disease who had been missing for more than a week was found dead Saturday.

Richard Jordan's body was found around 11:15 a.m.., about 100 yards from his home in the 1300 block of Garfield Road in Centre Township, according to State Police.

The 77-year-old Jordan was found after a large search party consisting of community members and police gathered earlier in the day.

"We were still hoping and praying somehow that we would still get him back. We know now that isn't going to happen," said Jim Lemma, Jordan's son-in-law.

Jordan had been missing since he left his home during a snowstorm Feb. 13. Jordan lived with his daughter and son-in-law.

"We got a call that we needed to come home. We know what that had to be," Lemma said.

Police said Jordan was found partially covered by snow between two evergreen trees.

"He was behind a tree, next to a shed. Buried by snow. The only reason they could find him was because some of the snow had melted away," Lemma said.

Snow also uncovered clues that may have helped find him sooner.

"His slippers we discovered today, on the edge of the driveway. We couldn't see them on the day he went missing," Lemma said.

"There were no signs of foul play nor is foul play suspected," State Police said in a news release.

Jordan leaves behind a wife, four children, and three grandchildren.
