Crime spree in Cumru Twp.

Police in Berks County are investigating a rash of vandalism attacks.

Vandals armed with BB guns have shot out the windows of two separate businesses and multiple cars in Cumru Township and Shillington over the past five weeks, police said.

"I had a pellet hole in the fender of my Jeep that was parked out here," said Bonnie Lorah, who works at V&S Sandwich Shop on Lancaster Pike, which has been hit at least three times between July 11 and Aug. 5. "It started with just three, and then the next day there was another one or two, and then the next day it was a couple more."

The business is riddled with holes from BBs. Workers counted about 20 that pierced at least eight windows. One pane of glass was even shattered.

"Someone could have been in here and they didn't even know it, and they could have got hurt," added Lorah.

Investigators said the vandals also shot out windows at J.D. Byrider a block away, as well as cars parked in a nearby neighborhood.

"To me it sounds like something a bunch of kids that are bored and have nothing better to do would be doing," resident Laura Byrd surmised.

At V&S Sandwich Shop, the criminal mischief could cost hundreds, even thousands, of dollars to repair. If the damage is greater than $5,000, the vandals could be facing felony charges.

"I hope they catch them," said Lorah. "To learn that they can't do this, they can't ruin businesses and frighten people."
