A man was killed when his speeding car went off Route 419 in Berks County and struck two trees, state police said.
The accident happened on Route 419, about a quarter-mile north of Old Route 22, in Tulpehocken Township sometime between 2 a.m. and 3 a.m. Monday, but it wasn't discovered until around 6:30 a.m., police said.
The initial investigation reveals that the car was traveling at a high rate of speed when it went off the road, struck one tree and then another before coming to rest in a cornfield, police said.
The driver, identified by police as Ty Zimmerman, 28, of Tulpehocken Township, died at the scene. No one else was in the car.
Route 419 was closed in both directions for several hours while troopers investigated the accident and crews worked to remove the wrecked vehicle from the field.
