Cleanup continued at a Five Guys restaurant in Berks County on Friday, a day after a car crashed into the restaurant, sending customers scrambling for safety.
The crash happened shortly before 7 p.m. Thursday, summoning an all-out response to the Spring Towne shopping center.
So many people were speechless Friday as they stopped by to take in the aftermath of what happened in the 3500 block of Penn Avenue.
"I was shocked. I was really surprised," said Robert Hughes.
The car barreled through the side of the restaurant as customers enjoyed their meals in the dining room.
"It's unfortunate. Sorry for the people that were injured and hurt. I'm really sorry to hear about that," said Hughes.
All of the glass that was shattered has been cleaned up, and the only sign of Thursday night's nightmare was some boarded-up windows.
Faithful customers said they are just glad they weren't anywhere near the restaurant when the accident happened.
"It's scary because we usually have our grandson with us," said Cindy Walter.
The driver of the vehicle was a woman in her 70s, and she thought she was hitting the brakes when she was actually stepping on the gas, police said.
"It can happen to anybody," said Donna Pezdirc.
Management said the restaurant will reopen for regular hours on Saturday.
