More then 80 middle school students in Berks County showed off their chemistry knowledge in a tough competition this weekend.
During the "You Be The Chemist Challenge," students from across the county came out to Penn State Berks on Saturday to take part in the question-and-answer chemistry academic competition.
Students showed off their knowledge of chemistry concepts, important discoveries and chemical safety awareness.
Organizers say these 5th through 8th grade students did a lot of studying leading into today's event.
Greglynn Gibbs, of the Penn Sratre Berks Chemical Society, said, "It's nice to be able to reach those students who might not be able to take part in a science fair but love science so much that they're willing to study and take part in something like this."
The top four students from Saturday advanced to the Pennsylvania State Challenge, and the winner of that moves on to the National Competition.
The four local winners are: Sam Botterbusch of Wyomissing Area Junior/Senior High School; Marc Chmielewski of Wilson West Lawn Middle School; Sashank Sridhar of Wilson Southern Middle School; and Andrew Zhou of Wyomissing Area Junior/Senior High School.
