Berks smash-and-grab burglar comes up empty after opening cash register with no money

Police in Berks County are on the hunt for a smash and grab burglar who struck at a gas station in Washington Township, but came up empty when he opened a cash register with no money in it.

State police said a white male driving a blue Ford Taurus carried out the crime around 3:14 a.m. Saturday at the Shell Gas Station in the 1300 block of Route 100.

Wearing a black ski mask to cover his face, he used a rock to break into the front door.

Police said as he went to take cash from the register, he discovered it had no money it. That's when police said he drove off on Barto Road.

No items were taken.
