The search continues for an accused felon who was the subject of a massive manhunt in Berks County on Wednesday.
Stephen Kulcyski Jr. has managed to elude police capture since Monday when he led officers in Schuylkill County on a chase in a stolen pickup truck.
According to police, over the last 24 hours some tips have come in and they have reason to believe he is still in the area.
"We were so scared we locked the door and everything," said Sxuan Doan, who added police scoured her neighborhood.
Doan said it was a sleepless night for her family, knowing Kulcyski was still on the run.
An officer reported seeing him late Wednesday morning near the Arner's restaurant on Howard Boulevard in Mount Penn.
The sighting triggered a massive response of sheriff's deputies, state police and their helicopter, law enforcement officers from Reading and the surrounding suburbs, and numerous K9 units.
"I was a little nervous because I didn't know exactly from the beginning what was going on," said Dale Smith, who was one of the many residents not allowed back in their homes.
Despite a six-hour search in the woods of Mount Penn and east Reading, Kulcyski got away.
"It's got to be a matter of time. He's going to show up somewhere," said Matt Chapple, whose parents live in the area.
The Reading man is wanted on multiple felony warrants, including witness intimidation, harassment, receiving stolen property, and theft, according to Berks County Sheriff Eric Weaknecht, who noted that he should be considered armed and dangerous.
He has also been arrested numerous times for allegedly violation protection from abuse orders.
For many people in the area, it's still the fear of the unknown.
"It's definitely out of the ordinary, but hopefully it comes to a resolution soon," said Chapple.
Anyone who sees Kulcyski or knows of his whereabouts should call 911 right away.
