An icy patch on Route 222 was cause for quite the story of survival for a few motorists Friday afternoon.
A tractor trailer was traveling north on 222, just south of Kutztown, when it slid on a patch of ice near Richmond Road shortly before 3 p.m., crossed into the southbound lane and jackknifed against a snowbank, taking out a utility pole in the process, police said.
A southbound car then hit the rear wheel of the tractor trailer, while another southbound car, swerving to avoid the first car, went underneath the truck's trailer, coming to rest against the same snowbank, police said.
Amazingly, no one was injured, said police, adding that all the vehicles' occupants were wearing seat belts.
Travel on Route 222 was reported to be slow getting by the scene. Fire police were dispatched to assist with traffic.
Late Friday night, 69 News spoke with the driver of the vehicle that was trapped under the tractor trailer, Kristian Castellano, from New Tripoli.
Castallano says he hit his head during the accident and had been experiencing more head pain throughout the night, Friday, but says he expects to be okay.
