CUMRU TWP., Pa. -

Police are on the hunt for thieves who stole copper wiring from a business in Berks County.

The break-in happened sometime between March 27 and April 6 at the former location of Northeast Building Systems, 5 East Pointe Dr., in Cumru Township, police said.

The thieves, police said, managed to get inside the unoccupied building undetected because its alarm system was temporarily bypassed during renovations.

The thieves removed approximately 3,000 feet of heavy copper wiring that measured between 5/8” and 1” in diameter, said police, adding that the damage and replacement costs totaled approximately $300,000.

Anyone with information about the break-in is asked to call the Cumru Township Police Department at 610-777-9595 or Crime Alert Berks County at 877-373-9913.
