BERN TWP., Pa. -

A 17-year-old boy has been arrested on charges he robbed an elderly woman and her great niece at gunpoint after cutting off the electricity to their home, police said.

The home invasion happened Oct. 18 in the 400 block of South Tulpehocken Road in Bern Twp., Berks Co.

The suspect, police said, entered the home undetected, went into the basement and turned off the electricity and then went back upstairs and robbed the residents of jewelry.

"Diligent police work and assistance from the community were keys to the successful outcome of this investigation," said Chief Wesley R. Waugh, Bern Twp. Police Dept. "Critical information came to our department from the Crime Alert Berks County. We home that the community can rest a little easier now knowing that this perpetrator is in custody."
