An effort to help train unemployed and underemployed workers for in-demand jobs is up and running at Pennsylvania's 14 community colleges, including Reading Area Community College.
School officials said Jobtrack Pa. has been going smoothly in Reading since the spring. Courses prepare students for jobs in advanced manufacturing, energy distribution and health care information technology.
"Some of the programs we offer, in terms of training, are as short as three weeks," said John Devere, the project manager. "The majority of them are in the neighborhood of 16 to 18 weeks, and we have some that last close to a year. The whole point is we want to get people back to work as quickly as possible."
Officials said they hope to form partnerships to match students with local companies.
