Search under way for missing service dog, Finley
Updated On: Mar 07 2013 09:33:58 AM CST
The search continues for a service dog that has gone missing in Berks County.
Denice DeAntonio and her golden retriever, Finley, were in the parking lot of the Broadcasting Square shopping center in Spring Township on Tuesday night when Denice said she fell and had to go to a hospital.
Finley, she said, became scared by all the activity in the area and ran off with the harness still attached. His harness has an "Amazing Tails" patch on it.
Finley was reportedly spotted Wednesday near the old Meridian Bank building, which is located across Paper Mill Road from the shopping center, and again in neighboring Wyomissing.
His owner searched desperately all day Wednesday and wanted to get him out of the cold and rain. She couldn't track down the golden retriever down, but it wasn't from lack of help.
It was a family effort because Denice said she can't find Finley alone, especially in a landscape where he would blend in.
"I couldn't walk this, no not at all. That's why everyone else is doing all the legwork," explained Denice, who said she suffered a stroke a few years ago and has trouble seeing and keeping her balance. She was just paired up with Finley two weeks ago.
"The weather is bad, and every minute that passes puts him at higher risk," said Dustin Feldman, of Amazing Tails LLC in Oxford, Chester Co. "If someone spots him, the best thing to do is call his name in a happy voice. He will most likely pick up his own leash and come to you. If he is chased, he will run away."
The last place Finley was seen was in the Oak Hill development in Wyomissing.
Denice said she has been humbled by all the help on foot and from posts on Facebook.
The search resumed Thursday morning, and someone offered to bring in tracking dogs. A Spring Township police officer, with dog treats in his pocket, said he would also be looking for Finley.
Anyone who spots Finley is asked to call Denice at 610-914-1212 or Dustin Feldman at 610-316-9193.
