Reading Police release video, pictures of alleged killer

Police said they have new clues in the killing of a 21-year-old man who was gunned down in front of his own home in Reading.

Police on Monday released surveillance video and still photographs of a man they said pulled the trigger and killed Luis Medina around 2:30 a.m. on New Year's Day in the 100 block of South 3rd Street.

Both the surveillance footage and the still pictures, captured about a block away from the homicide, show a man calmly walking down the street, wearing sweat pants, a hooded sweatshirt and white sneakers.

"We were able to get someone who was on scene," said Sgt. John Solecki, Reading Police Dept. "They were able to pick this individual out in surveillance video and identify him as the shooter."

Just last week, police arrested Jesus Guillermo Rivera, 26, and charged him with conspiracy in connection with this homicide.

Investigators said the shooting was sparked by a fight, the cause of which, they said, is still unknown.

"And during that fight outside is when the individual in the photo pulled out a gun and started firing," said Solecki.

Police are still following up on leads. If you have any information you are urged to call Crime Alert Berks County at 877-373-9913. You could receive a cash reward of up to $10,000 if your anonymous tip leads to an arrest.
