Police seek man who robbed bank at closing time

The workday came to a dramatic end for employees of one local bank Thursday afternoon.

The National Penn Bank at 1100 Berkshire Boulevard in Wyomissing, Berks County, was robbed around 4:50 p.m., just a few minutes before closing time.

A man handed a teller a note that indicated he had a weapon, but police said none was ever shown. He took cash and walked out of the bank, but dropped some as he left, said Det. George Bell, Wyomissing Police Department.

Police described the robber as a black man in his mid-20s, standing about 5 feet, 5 inches tall. Surveillance pictures show he was wearing a heavy, black coat, a black baseball cap with a U.S. Army logo on the front, and sunglasses.

The robber drove away from the bank in a white car, possibly a Toyota or Mitsubishi, police said.

There were no reported injuries.

If you have any information about the robbery, you can call Crime Alert Berks County toll-free at 877-373-9913. A cash reward of up to $5,000 will be paid for information that leads to an arrest.
