STRAUSSTOWN, Pa. -

Country music singer/songwriter Pat Garrett is opening himself up to a different style of music.

Garrett, of Strausstown, Berks Co., has bought WTPA 92.1 FM, a classic rock station that serves central Pennsylvania.

"I put in my bid for WTPA," said Garrett, "and much to my surprise, I now own a rock station!"

Garrett promises to keep the current rock format, much to the delight of the station's longtime fans.

"I may be a country boy, but rock n’ roll is here to stay!" said Garrett, who also owns WWSM 1510 AM, a classic country music station near Palmyra, Lebanon Co. "WTPA has had a great heritage as a rock station in the Harrisburg market, and we feel confident the 25-54 audience in the greater Harrisburg, York, and Lancaster areas that WTPA is targeting will continue to enjoy the station and support its sponsors for years to come. Plus, I love the music."

WTPA, Garrett said, also "comes in like gangbusters here in northern Berks County."

Garrett has been a fixture in the Strausstown area, owning the former Pat Garrett Amphitheater, where he hosted concerts and performed with the likes of Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson. It's also where Taylor Swift, at the age of 11, competed in karaoke contests.

Garrett also performs with his five-piece country music group, the Pat Garrett Band.
