A rumored threat at Brandywine Heights High School in Berks County turned out to be just that -- a rumor.
State police were on hand at the school in Longswamp Township on Wednesday as students returned from their Christmas break.
The police presence was prompted, school officials said, by a rumor about a student possibly having a gun.
The school district sent out an alert to parents Tuesday night about the rumor and the police being at the school as a precaution on Wednesday.
No weapon was found, said Martin Handler, the district superintendent, adding that officials could not substantiate the rumor or how it started.
