Pennsylvania state police said a woman and her adult son are part of a team of serial burglars that is now behind bars. Officials said homes and businesses in Berks County and Montgomery County were hit during the spring and summer of 2012.
State police arrested the mother earlier this month, but they said her son turned himself in this past weekend after fleeing to Ecuador.
Clark Gilbert's home was just one of the homes in Berks County police said was hit by a team of burglars between April and July this year.
"I don't know why they picked on me," said Gilbert, "There's a lot of richer people around here than me."
Gilbert was one of many people victimized by the burglars.
"They took all my stuff from childhood. They took my toys, they took my stuff that I was collecting," said Gilbert.
Police said Myles Dawson and a partner hit more than half a dozen places including homes and businesses in Washington Twp. in Berks County and New Hanover Twp. in Montgomery County. Police said the items Dawson stole ranged from copper pipes to guns and even a go-cart.
State police said Dawson and the other man would steal the items and then his mom, Mellany Knobl would photograph and list them on eBay.
"I was disappointed," said Gilbert, "I thought I lived in a safe neighborhood."
State police said Dawson fled to Ecuador, but they were able to convince him to return to PA and turn himself in.
"I was so glad they got the people. It's at least two of them," said Gilbert.
Police said they were able to recover some of the stolen items.
