READING, Pa. -

A man convicted of murder for killing two people at a party in 2011 will spend decades behind bars.

A Berks County judge on Thursday sentenced Matthew Perkins to 20 to 40 years in state prison.

A jury earlier this month convicted Perkins of third degree murder, assault and other offenses. He was acquitted of first degree murder.

Perkins, at the age of 17, shot three people on Heckmans Court in Reading on July 30, 2011.

One of the victims, Cesar Rivera, died shortly after the shooting; the other, Juan Perez Pimental, died months later.

After an all-out search in the Reading area, Perkins was arrested in Florida a little more than a week after the shootings and returned to Berks County to face charges.
