Man shot during bank robbery indicted by feds

Federal prosecutors have indicted a man for attempting to rob a bank in Berks County.


Federal prosecutors have indicted a man who was shot while allegedly trying to rob a bank last month.

Dragos Ungurean, 30, of Wyomissing, was charged Tuesday by indictment with attempted bank robbery, announced United States Attorney Zane David Memeger. 

According to the indictment, on March 19, Ungurean walked into the M&T Bank at 800 Penn Avenue in Wyomissing and threatened to blow up a bomb that was strapped to his body.


It just so happened that Wyomissing Police Detective George Bell was in the bank at the time.

According to officials, Bell fought with Ungurean and ended up shooting him in the stomach. Officials said the bomb Ungurean claimed to have had turned out to be a fake.

If convicted,Ungurean faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison. He also faces a maximum period of supervised release of three years, a $250,000 fine, and a $100 special assessment.
