Instead of preparing for Thanksgiving dinner, one Robesonia family is looking for a home for their 82-year-old loved one, Janette.
"It's a tragedy," said Beth Achey, family member. "Right at the holidays. It's very difficult for all of us."
Just two months ago, Janette moved into Golden Ridge Personal Care Home in Robesonia, Berks Co.
She suffers from depression, but family members said Golden Ridge did wonders for her spirit.
"Since we moved her down there, there's a total change. She's a lot more happy," said Larry Achey, family member. "She involves herself. She's huggy."
"She really enjoyed her time there, and it's really going to be a devastating move for her," said Beth Achey.
The owner of Golden Ridge said the facility is closing due to taxes owed to the I.R.S.
"It's very difficult, but unfortunately, with the back taxes for the I.R.S., there's no choice in the matter," said Lynn Zerbe, owner. "These residents are family to me, and it kills me that this is happening right before the holidays, and it kills me that it has to happen at all."
Meanwhile, Janette's family is hoping for a holiday miracle.
"Just at least allow the people to have an extension to stay through the holidays," Beth said.
The Department of Public Welfare will be at Golden Ridge on Tuesday to help identify places where residents can move.
Also, the owner said the doors will remain open until all the residents have a decent place to live.
If family members are not able to go to Golden Ridge on Tuesday to meet with the Department of Public Welfare, they can call 866-503-3926.
