Family speaks for first time since loved one's life was cut short

69 News has learned that the 21-year-old killed in front of his Reading home on New Year's Day was an aspiring artist.

The victim, Luis Medina, an expert at drawing with pen and pencil, was killed around 2:30 a.m. on New Years Day, in the 100 of block of S. Third Street in Reading.

In an exclusive, tearful interview with 69 News, Luis' mother spoke about her son's amazing talent.

"He was a beautiful drawer," said Teresa Solorio, as tears streamed down her face. "He would sketch clown faces and he was just really good."

Solorio even set up an altar in the family living room to pray for Luis' soul, but she indicated that the task of praying doesn't come without pain.

"I can't," said Solorio. "It's getting harder and harder everyday, and I just want these people to be caught. It's not fair."

This week, police released surveillance footage and still pictures of the man who authorities say is the killer. In the images, he can be seen walking calmly down the street, about a block away from the homicide, wearing sweat pants, a hoodie, and white sneakers.

Police say the images were taken just after the homicide.

The victim's brother is still furious over the entire ordeal.

"That's just crazy," said Salvador Medina.

Salvador says his brother, Luis, would literally throw himself into his art, spilling his own blood.

"His own blood," said Salvador as he showed 69 News drawings in which Luis' blood was used for color. "He would put it there just so it would look realistic. That's all his real blood."

Sadly, these are the last works that will be produced by Luis, and for that, his family says, the killer must face justice.

"If somebody knows who these people are, it touches their heart and they turn them in, or these people turn themselves in," said the victim's mother in tears.

During the shooting, one of the victim's brothers was also shot, but has since recovered.

Police have also arrested one suspect, Jesus Guillermo Rivera, 26, and charged him with conspiracy in connection with this homicide, officials said.
