Daniel Boone considers closing primary school

The future of an elementary school in Amity Township is in jeopardy.
Monday night the Daniel Boone School District voted to hold a hearing on the possible closure of Amity Primary Center.
That's where Avery Scogna goes to first grade.
His dad Ed Scogna says he had no idea that closing the school was a possibility.
"I haven't really thought about it. This is news to me," he said.
The Amity Primary Center has students from kindergarten to second grade. The superintendent says if they decide to close the school, those students would go to other schools.
Parents say this may be one thing they'll have to adjust to.
"They just built that new school down there. It's not too far but we live right across here so it's easy for us," Scogna said.
The superintendent says the first and second graders would join the third, fourth and fifth graders at the Amity Intermediate Center.
Students in kindergarten would move to Monocacy Elementary.
The hearing about the future of the school is February 4 at 6:30.
Scogna says this wouldn't be the first time he and his wife attended a hearing about their kids' education.
"When he first started kindergarten it was full time and he was supposed to go full time we were thinking. And then they cut it to half day kindergarten so we were trying to arrange our work schedules and stuff," Scogna said.
The school district is facing a $5 million deficit. Closing this school would save about a half million a year.
"We wouldn't want them to (close the school). It's real close," Scogna said.
After the hearing, the board has 90 days to make its decision.
