Berks County officials have signed a Declaration of Disaster Emergency in light of Sandy's potential impact on the county.
Officials have met with the county's department of emergency services updating them on the potential severity of Sandy.
They say that PPL and Met-Ed crews are trying to limit the amount of power outages that are area could face.
"We can't predict what's going to happen with nature," said County Commissioner Christian Leinbach. "What we can do is encourage the public to do everything possible to protect themselves, to protect their neighbors and we're doing everything possible to protect the continuity of operations here in the county of Berks."
Some public works agencies have already cut down trees that could potential cause significant damages in the area.
