Reading's landmark Pagoda has never looked so good.
Pete and Jeannette Laspopoulos, of Temple, Muhlenberg Township, and Ronald and Marilyn Hafer, of Shillington, spent more than 40 hours working on a gingerbread Pagoda.
The finished product is about three feet tall, and we're told it's made of more than $50 worth of candy, including licorice, jelly beans, chocolate-covered peanuts and raisins, icing and food coloring.
Former Mayor Tom McMahon, the chair of the Pagoda Foundation, checked out the finished work Thursday.
The gingerbread Pagoda was moved to the real Pagoda atop Mount Penn for the New Year's Eve celebration next Monday night. That celebration will include fireworks at midnight.
