A 200-year-old log cabin was destroyed by a fire in Berks County early Thursday, and the weather added an extra degree of difficulty for firefighters.
The first call came in around 3:20 a.m. for firefighters to respond to Fisher Dam and River roads, adjacent to the Schuylkill River in Tilden Township.
By the time the Hamburg fire chief arrived on the scene, the cabin was fully involved in fire and 3/4 of the structure had already collapsed.
Fire officials said the weather provided extra challenges for crews. Chunks of ice made it unsafe for firefighters and the slippery conditions made it difficult for trucks to get there.
Multiple fire departments from throughout the county responded to the fire and they left the scene by 6:30 a.m.
The building was a total loss. No one was injured.
Investigators have not yet determined how the fire started.
