West Reading police are on a manhunt for the criminals who robbed and injured two guests at the Candlewood Suites. The armed robbery was so violent the victims were sent to the hospital.
Police were tight lipped about many of the details in this investigation. But they said even though everything happened at a hotel, they believe everyone involved in this case is local.
In the light of day, the Candlewood Suites off Penn Avenue in West Reading showed no signs of what happened at 2:45 Thursday morning. West Reading police said two guests were attacked and robbed.
One of the victims was stabbed with a knife and the other was beaten inside the hotel room.
"Never heard anything," said Elizabeth Sealy, who lives nearby, "It's normal to hear police cars, but it's usually going across the bridge or something. You never really pay it any mind. But to hear that it was right here is very scary."
Elizabeth Sealy lives on Yarnell Street, less than a block away from the hotel.
"That's scary because usually we're people we leave our doors open, the kids go outside," said Sealy, "So, that is kind of scary now seriously."
Hotel management released this statement:
"The Candlewood Suites Reading holds the safety, comfort and well-being of our guests and employees as our top priority and concern. The hotel team will continue to cooperate fully with authorities in their investigation."
West Reading police said they are making progress in this investigation and hope it will come to a quick conclusion.
The good news, police said: they expect both victims to recover from their injuries.
No arrests have been made.
Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call Crime Alert Berks County at 877-373-9913.
