A Montgomery County man was killed when his car slammed into a fence in Berks County early Thursday, police said.

The accident happened just before 1:30 a.m. in the 2200 block of East Main Street, also known as Route 724, in Union Twp. Berks Co.

The driver, John Nalencz Jr., was traveling too fast around a right-hand curve on East Main Street and left the north side of the road, hit a mailbox a 2279 E. Main St. and a split rail wooden fence, police said.

The car continued in a north-northeast direction, where its right rear passenger side hit a utility pole, police said. The car ended up in the parking area of the Gear Jammers Saloon.

Nalencz, 22, of Green Lane, Montgomery Co., died of severe neck injuries, the coroner said.

State police ask anyone with information about the accident to call their Reading barracks at 610-378-4011.
