Berks authorities conduct countywide drug roundup

Several people in Berks County got a rude awakening Thursday morning when authorities came knocking during a countywide drug sweep.

Several people in Berks County got a rude awakening Thursday morning when authorities came knocking during a countywide drug sweep.

Ten of 15 suspects being sought have been arrested, said District Attorney John Adams, who announced results of the operation during a news conference at the Berks County Services Center.

"Today’s roundup is an example of our relentless commitment to eliminate all levels of narcotics and dangerous drug traffickers in Berks County," Adams said.

The suspects arrested during the roundup were identified by authorities as:

  • Ricky Cortez, 29, of the 1300 block of North Front Street in Reading. He's charged with possession, possession with intent to deliver, and delivery of cocaine.
  • Theo S. Almonds, 36, of the 600 block of Minor Street in Reading. He's charged with possession, possession with intent to deliver, and delivery of marijuana.
  • Jose Diaz, 48, of the 100 block of North 11th Street in Reading. He's charged with possession, possession with intent to deliver, and delivery of cocaine.
  • Daniel Rodriguez, 24, of the 1100 block of Robeson Street in Reading. He's charged with possession, possession with intent to deliver, and delivery of marijuana.
  • Angelo Reid, 39, of the 300 block of Penn Street in Reading. He's charged with possession, possession with intent to deliver, and delivery of cocaine.
  • Jose Lugo, 49, of the 4100 block of Danor Drive in Muhlenberg Township. He's charged with He's charged with possession, possession with intent to deliver, and delivery of heroin.
  • Daniel Gladu, 34, of the 300 block of North Brobst Street in Shillington. He's charged with delivery of a non-controlled substance, purported to be cocaine.
  • Jonathan Hafer, 33, of the 800 block of Golden Drive in Blandon. He's charged with possession, possession with intent to deliver, and delivery of cocaine.
  • Phillip Amato, 20, of the 200 block of South Franklin Street in Fleetwood. He's charged with possession, possession with intent to deliver, and delivery of marijuana and LSD.
  • Adrian Mauer, 21, of the first block of Chestnut Street in Blandon. He's charged with possession, possession with intent to deliver, and delivery of marijuana and LSD.

The arrests are the result of a 9-month investigation conducted by the district attorney's drug task force and the Pennsylvania State Police.

During the investigation, officials said undercover detectives bought drugs, which included cocaine, heroin, LSD and marijuana, with values ranging from $20 to $1,000.

The five suspects who remain at large are identified as:

  • Dajir Robinson, of the first block of Charles Avenue in Birdsboro
  • David Santana, of the 900 block of Walnut Street in Reading
  • Jeffrey Gladu, of the 1500 block of Kenhorst Boulevard in Shillington
  • Miguel Roque, of the 200 block of South 8th Street in Reading
  • Jose Delgado, of the 400 block of Spruce Street in Reading

Anyone with information about there whereabouts is asked to call Crime Alert Berks County at 877-373-9913. A cash reward of up to $5,000 is being offered for information that leads to an arrest.
