Strength training can have numerous benefits – especially for seniors. Take a look at some of the benefits outlined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

According to the CDC, research has shown that strengthening exercises are safe and effective for women and men of all ages and of all fitness levels. Patients with existing health issues should always consult their physician before starting a new fitness program.

The CDC states that strengthening exercises can benefit those with heart disease and arthritis, and it – along with aerobic exercise – can also improve a person’s mental and emotional health.

Other benefits of strengthening exercises, according to the CDC, include reducing the symptoms of the following: arthritis, diabetes, osteoporosis, obesity, back pain and depression.

Strength training and also help improve a person’s balance, which can help prevent falls. According to the CDC, strengthening exercises can help improve a person’s range of motion, flexibility and balance.
