A Berks County man accused of pointing a gun at his father is now in custody after allegedly breaking away from the Hamburg police state barracks while handcuffed.
According to court documents, the incident began to play out a few days ago when police responded to a home in the 900 block of Bellemans Church Road in Mohrsville.
Police say they responded to the home on Wednesday to follow up on the unauthorized use of the resident's ATM card.
While there, police said the resident's son, 22-year-old John Robert Fessler, appeared to be the person who had used the stolen the ATM card, according to court documents.
Police scoured the house for younger Fessler, but he had already left.
According to court documents, the father reported his son had been acting "very agitated and nervous" because he failed to make payment for a fine. The father said that before police arrived, his son pointed the barrel of a pellet gun into his chest. The father reported other violent behavior by his son, including ripping a telephone out of the wall and throwing it into the woods, according to court documents.
On Friday, the father called police to report his son was at the house. Police took the son into custody after finding him hiding under a bed, according to court documents.
Fessler was taken to the state police barracks in Hamburg, where he broke away in the parking lot while in handcuffs, according to court documents.
Police say Fessler ran into a wooded area not far from the barracks; he was eventually apprehended around 6:30 p.m. along railroad tracks off Lowland Road in Tilden Township.
Fessler is facing a slew of charges, including simple assault for pointing a gun at his father and resisting arrest.
Also charged in the incident is Courtnee Seidel, who police say was inside the Mohrsville home without permission and helped Fessler hinder apprehension by lying to police about his location, according to court documents.
