ArtsQuest adds comedy festival to lineup
If you're looking for some belly laughs in the dead of winter, look no further than ArtsQuest's first comedy festival.
The first SteelsStacks Improv Comedy Festival is set for Saturday, February 1 at the ArtsQuest Center at 101 Founders Way in Bethlehem.
Headlining the festival will be the Upright Citizens Brigade, a nationally acclaimed improv company with some impressive alums.
Founded by Amy Poehler, Matt Besser, Ian Roberts and Matt Walsh, the Upright Citizens Brigade is widely recognized as the best improv, sketch and standup troupe in the country.
Many of its members have gone on to perform and write for Saturday Night Live, The Office, 30 Rock, Parks and Recreation and many other comedy shows and movies.
Some of the group's most notable alumni include: Aziz Ansari, Rob Corddry, Donald Glover, Ed Helms, Kate McKinnon, Bobby Moynihan, Aubrey Plaza, Rob Riggle and Horatio Sanz.
The festival will showcase a variety of short- and long-form improv groups during 10 hours of nonstop comedy.
In addition to the performance by the Upright Citizens Brigade Touring Company, the festival will feature improv groups from the mid-Atlantic region, with performances determined by a jurying process.
Improv troupes are invited to submit a performance resume and/or biography, plus a video clip of a performance to www.artsquest.org/comedy by Dec. 6.
Troupes selected to perform at the festival will be notified by Dec. 13.
The event will run from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m.
Festival tickets are $24 in advance, $29 the day of the festival and $20 for ArtsQuest members.
Tickets go on sale to ArtsQuest members Tuesday at 10 a.m., and the public at 10 a.m. Friday, available at www.artsquest.org/comedy and at 610-332-3378.
