Alvernia baseball falls in Commonwealth opener

Defending champions kept in check by Falcons as they fall into loser's bracket.

YORK, Pa. -

At York, the #2 Alvernia baseball team fell, 8-2, to #3 Messiah in the opening round of the MAC Commonwealth Tournament. The Crusaders came into the tournament as the defending champions.

Steven Ridings went the distance for the Falcons, tossing 150 pitches. Messiah put the game away in the 2nd, scoring 4 runs to make it 5-0.

Alvernia drops into the loser's bracket where it will face Lebanon Valley on Friday at 11:00am.
