Allentown School District names interim principal

He was only on the job for one year, but William Allen High School Principal Shannon Mayfield is already moving on.
"Shannon Mayfield in one year was able to produce a miracle that most administrators are not able to do," said Allentown School Board Member Ce-Ce Gerlach.
The move by the school's first black principal stunned district officials.
"The students and Allen and the entire city, they have really lost a passionate, skilled educator, and I wish it didn't come to this," added Gerlach. "And I urge everyone to really think about the reasons why this has happened."
Published reports say that Mayfield resigned over a personality conflict with superintendent Russell Mayo.
Gerlach says she's disappointed and upset about the resignation.
"Now that he has resigned I'm worried about the start of the school year at Allen."
But district leaders are already moving on. Allen's current Assistant Principal, Scott Fisher, has been temporarily appointed interim Principal.
"He's a graduate of Allen High School and is very willing to step in and help us during this transition time," shared Superintendent of Schools Dr. Russ Mayo.
Mayo says Fisher has been with ASD for 30 years, and that there should be no concern about getting the school year started.
"I feel strongly that Scott is able to be the boots on the ground so to speak, and he will be organized and prepare for the opening of the school, which we need," said Mayo.
The district has already started the search for a new principal, and hopes to have a recommendation to the board by the end of September.
