ALLENTOWN, Pa. -

A local group is reaching out to families in downtown Allentown.

The Allentown Promise Neighborhood held an early-learning and community schools open house Wednesday.

Representatives from St. Luke's, Head Start and some local elementary schools were there to answer questions and hand out materials.

Organizers said it's really important for the families to know what services are available to them.

"One of our primary focuses is early learning support, meaning preschool and pre-K based services, and there is a tremendous need, so we are here to make sure families and students are provided quality learning experiences," said Dawn Robinson,
manager of student success, Allentown Promise Neighborhood.

The promise neighborhood group covers nine blocks of the city's “Old Allentown Historic District." It's a subsidiary of the United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley.
