Man points gun at police

ALLENTOWN, Pa. -

It was a close call for Allentown police Saturday afternoon when a robbery suspect tried to fire a gun at officers, but the weapon malfunctioned and did not go off, according to police.

Police said they were called out for a reported robbery at a home in the 600 block of 5th Street around 3 p.m. Saturday.

The robbery suspect, later identified as 25-year-old Shekir Thomas of Allentown, was located and followed into a yard in the 400 block of Allen Street.

That's when police say Thomas pointed a gun at officers and pulled the trigger, but the gun malfunctioned and did not go off, according to police. Officers then apprehended Thomas.

Thomas is facing a laundry list of charges.

Among them are aggravated assault, robbery, burglary, terroristic threats and theft.
