Allentown police investigate 2 separate shootings that may be related

Police are investigating are pair of shootings in downtown Allentown that could be connected.
An 18-year-old man was shot in the torso in the 100 block of North 10th Street around 1:15 a.m. Thursday.
Just minutes earlier and a few blocks away, investigators said bullets battered a home at 7th and Chew streets.
The shootings are being treated as separate incidents, but police said the description of a dark-skinned man wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt was given at both scenes. That and the proximity and time leaves open the possibility of the crimes being connected, police said.
"Thought I'd be safe 'cause the fire company is right there, but they don't care. They shoot," said Lilly Ruiz.
It's a frightening reality for the mother of two who's home on Chew Street is two doors down from one of the shooting scenes.
"I'm thinking about it, but everything is so expensive," she said when asked about any plans to move.
Within the past month, police said they've investigated three different shootings in the general area.
The SWAT team was called Monday for a standoff after a shooting near 10th and Gordon streets.
"I try to keep them indoors and in the backyard, but they have friends and always want to play," Ruiz said of her children.
The 18-year-old victim was expected to be okay, said police, who are still searching for the gunman.
