Local airline offering more Southern destinations

HANOVER TWP., Pa. -

Folks who are looking to get away to the Sunshine State have another destination option from Lehigh Valley International Airport.

Allegiant Airlines announced Tuesday new nonstop jet service to southwest Florida from eight cities, including Allentown, starting this fall.

Service to Punta Gorda (PGD) begins from Allentown on Oct. 31 with fares as low as $99.99 each way.

"We are pleased to add the beaches of southwest Florida as another affordable, convenient destination option for Lehigh Valley residents," said Andrew C. Levy, Allegiant Travel Company president.

"Our vacation packages and nonstop service to Orlando and the Tampa Bay area have been very popular with residents. We are confident the community will appreciate the convenience of flying nonstop to Punta Gorda," he added.

According to Allegiant, the new flights will operate twice a week between Lehigh Valley International Airport (ABE) and Punta Gorda Airport (PGD). Flights are scheduled Thursdays leaving ABE at 6:15 p.m. and arriving at PGD at 8:50 p.m., and Sundays leaving PGD at 2:50 p.m., arriving at ABE at 5:30 p.m.

Other cities benefiting from the new service include Asheville, N.C., Bangor, Maine, Cedar Rapids and Des Moines, Iowa, Moline/Quad Cities, Ill., Springfield/Branson, Mo., and Youngstown, Ohio.
