READING, Pa. -

Albright College's incoming freshman class will make history as the school’s largest when students arrive on campus in northeast Reading this Thursday.

The Class of 2017 is made up of more than 675 students, pushing the total traditional day enrollment past the 1,700 mark, officials said.

"We are thrilled to welcome Albright’s largest class ever and look forward to watching each individual member grow and thrive here," said Greg Eichhorn, vice president for enrollment management and dean of admission.

The freshman class is 60 percent larger than the Class of 2016.

Its size, officials said, is attributed to several factors, including Albright's strong academic reputation in the liberal arts and interdisciplinary learning, as well as the school's new financial aid policy to meet 100 percent of the institutionally determined need of its incoming freshmen.

“The new financial aid policy only underscores Albright’s commitment to its students and families to provide a world-class and affordable educational option," Eichhorn said.

The members of the Class of 2017 are drawn from more than 20 states and 12 foreign countries, including China, Ireland, Portugal, Saudi Arabia, and the United Kingdom.

Freshmen move-in day is scheduled for Thursday, starting at 7 a.m. That will be followed by four days of orientation.

Classes for all students will begin Mon., Aug. 26.
