READING, Pa. -

It was a joyous day for many new parents at the Berks County Courthouse in Reading on Wednesday.

Eight different families, coming from all across the country, celebrated the final stages of their adoptions.

"Everything's final, and it's one of the happiest days of my life," said Sasha Hemingway, who adopted twins with her husband, Chris.

The Hemingways traveled all the way from Connecticut after being matched with their 3-month-old twins through A Baby Step Adoption.

The locally based agency arranged a party for the Hemingways and the other seven adoptive families after the final hearings were held.

Overseeing the hearings was Berks County Senior Judge Arthur E. Grim.

"It's so important that we have wonderful folks out there who want to adopt," said Grim.

But adopting isn't always an easy journey for some families, like the McAfees, who initially went through a failed adoption. Yet on Wednesday, they successfully finalized the adoption of a baby girl.

"She's such a blessing to our family. She brings us joy all the time," said Kristine McAfee.
