Woman, husband bike 542 miles to class reunion in Fleetwood

High school reunions are always a time to gather with friends and reflect on the memories, but instead of flying or driving back to her hometown, one Fleetwood alum decided to ride her bicycle more than 500 miles.
"Right now, I am very anxious and excited," said Jean Orlando, as she anxiously waiting for her daughter, Lisa Edwards, and son-in-law, Robert, to finish a 10-day bike trip from North Carolina.
"As a mother, it does not matter how old your child is, you are always anticipating and waiting and wondering and hoping for the best," said Orlando.
The Edwards take bike trips often, but they decided this would be a unique way to travel to Fleetwood for Lisa's class reunion.
"Fall and spring are the best times to ride, so we just toyed with the idea and three weeks ago we decided to do it," Lisa said.
Lisa rides about 10,000 miles a year, but this 542-mile trip was the farthest her husband had ever traveled with her.
"After the first couple of days, I get my legs up under me. So it is not too bad. It takes a little while for your rear end to kind of get in shape along with your legs," said Robert.
Lisa said trekking across several states is not as simple as you would think. It takes a lot of planning.
"Fifty is a good touring average if you are fully loaded. You are about ready to get off the bike at that point, but you cannot always go 50 miles. You have to go where you are going to find a place to stay," said Lisa.
Now, Lisa and Robert said they are looking forward to celebrating her 30th reunion Saturday afternoon.
