A parolee wanted for making threats against law enforcement officials was arrested after a car chase that crisscrossed the Pennsylvania-New Jersey border, officials said.

David C. Shanahan was taken into custody Saturday night after officers used a bumping technique to disable the 1988 Chevrolet Corvette he was driving the wrong way on the Portland toll bridge in Northampton Co., officials said.

Shanahan was first spotted traveling on Route 611 near Stone hurch Drive at about 6:40 p.m. Saturday, but he fled into New Jersey when police tried to stop him near the Portland toll bridge, officials said.

Shanahan eventually stopped on State Road 46, but as police were telling him to get out of his car and put his hands up, he took off, officials said.

New Jersey State Police soon began pursuing Shanahan, and when he tried to recross the Portland toll bridge, police were waiting, officials said.

Shanahan is on parole for robbery and forgery, according to court papers.

Shanahan, 50, of 10505 Interchange Rd., Polk Twp., Monroe Co., was arraigned on charges of fleeing a police officer, reckless endangerment and escape and committed to the Northampton County Prison on $35,000 bail, according to court documents.

A preliminary hearing is set for 10 a.m. March 29.
