Berks Women in Crisis is marking Domestic Violence Awareness Month with a special walk.

READING, Pa. -

Berks Women in Crisis is marking Domestic Violence Awareness Month with a special walk.

Participants walked the streets of Reading on Tuesday carrying a red silhouette. Each represents a victim of domestic violence in Berks County.

The walk is part of the group's 10th annual Silent Witness Project. The idea is to raise awareness of domestic violence while honoring.
""When we developed it 10 years ago, we had 18 homicide victims, domestic violence homicide victims, and now we have 44," said Christine Gilfillan, prevention education director.

Officials also said construction of Berks Women in Crisis' building at South 3rd and Chestnut streets is moving along.  They are hoping the building will be ready to go by early next year.
