Congress is taking a closer look at the role broadcasters play during natural disasters and other emergencies.

WASHINGTON, D.C. -

Congress is taking a closer look at the role broadcasters play during natural disasters and other emergencies.

A Congressional sub-committee held a hearing this week on the issue of emergency preparedness.

The President and General Manager of WFMZ, Barry Fisher, was there representing the National Association of Broadcasters.

"When the power goes out, when phone service is limited, when Internet goes down, broadcasters are always there and always on the air," said Fisher.

The hearing was the second in a series meant to look at ways to improve the nation’s emergency management capability.
