A struggling widow with two teenage children is getting a helping hand.
Construction crews are busy making over Lisa Pieller's home in Womelsdorf, Berks Co. They have exactly one week to get it done.
"I do not even know how to describe it or put it in words. It is just amazing," said Pieller.
Crews gutted Pieller's master bedroom and living room. They are leveling out the floor, installing insulation, painting and resurfacing the floors. They also have a landscaping crew fixing up the backyard.
This is the third home the Restoring Hope Foundation has remodeled. Organization leaders said it is always tough deciding which family to choose.
"Everybody needs help. You know in her situation, she was a widow and she has two teenage kids. Last year, she worked two jobs to try to make ends meet. So, it just seemed like the right thing to do," said Eric Keller, the Restoring Hope Foundation board chairman.
Since her husband's unexpected death three years ago, Pieller said it has been hard to keep up with housework. She said she is most excited everything will be up to code, and she is also grateful the organization is giving her a helping hand.
"It is incredible. It is a blessing to any family who is chosen and has it done. It is a huge relief that comes off your shoulders," said Pieller.
"It is a hand-up, not a handout, and that is basically what we are doing. We are giving her a hand and saying, 'Here you go. Let us get over this together,' and that is neat. That is what all human beings should do," said Keller.
The big reveal will be on Saturday at noon.
