A woman attacked with a machete in Reading says the crime has left her life in shambles.
For the past two weeks, Lisa Ganns has been confined to a bed at the Reading Hospital.
Ganns says she was awakened in her bed on September 28, around 4 or 5 in the morning, and saw a man standing over top of her with a machete, according to court documents.
The victim was slashed several times in her home in the 1000 block of Marion St. in Reading, police said.
The man accused with the crime is Alvin Washington, the father of one of Ganns' children, court documents indicate.
"I can't believe that he would actually chop me up, and like an animal and treat me this way," Ganns said.
Shortly after the crime, Washington was arrested near the 600 block of Chestnut Street, investigators said.
Ganns says she has no idea how Washington got into her home. She adds that he may have had a spare set of keys.
"I would never have expected this would ever happen to me when I got the PFA," Ganns said.
Ganns says she doesn't have the use of her arm, nor her left knee. She has lost her job, been evicted from her apartment, and is having problems with her insurance company, she adds.
Now, Ganns says she is demanding justice and her life back.
"When it rains, it pours," Ganns said. "So, I don't have any money coming in. You know. It's just horrible."
Washington is behind bars on $500,000 bail, and is facing a long list of charges, including attempted homicide charges.
