The Easton Fire Department rescued a man whose vehicle crashed into the Delaware River.

EASTON, Pa. -

A man whose vehicle rode off a steep embankment into the Delaware River was rescued by the Easton Fire Department overnight.

The accident occurred around 11:56 p.m. Friday, when a vehicle dropped 40 feet into the river on North Delaware Drive (Route 611), about a half-mile north of Bushkill Street, according to the Northampton County Communications Center.

Easton Fire Captain Henry Hennings said the male driver, who did not appear to be seriously injured, was transported to St. Luke's University Hospital.

Hennings said it took about 30 minutes to remove the driver from the partially submerged  vehicle and pull him up the embankment.

Calls to the Easton Police Department seeking further information on the accident were not readily returned.
