Fans of the Freddy Awards can now get a preview of the much-anticipated documentary about the program.
Canyonback Films has released the trailer for "Most Valuable Players," a documentary that follows stories behind the scenes and in front of the camera leading up to and during the 2008 Freddy Awards, which is referred to in the trailer as the "Super Bowl" of high school musical theater.
In addition to highlights of the ceremony at the State Theatre, the trailer includes video of rehearsals and performances at Emmaus, Freedom, and Parkland high schools and various celebrations by students following the live announcement of nominees on 69 News at noon.
An advanced screening of the documentary itself has been scheduled for Friday, April 16 at the State Theatre.
The evening will begin with a gala benefit at 7:00 in the Acopian Ballroom. Tickets cost $150 each, which includes the movie ticket; admission to the pre-show reception with buffet and open bar, a meet-and-greet with the filmmakers, performances by Freddy alumni; and one free raffle ticket for a chance to win two tickets to the 2010 Freddy Awards on May 27.
A student-only red carpet party will also be held at 7:00 in the Alvin H. Butz Gallery. Tickets cost $35, which includes a ticket to the advanced screening. The party will feature music, food, and unlimited soft drinks. The dress is semi-formal or you can attend in your show costume. Student ID is required
The screening will take place at 8:30 in the main theatre. A reserved seat ticket costs $25. A student ticket with ID is discounted at $10.
The reserved and student tickets are available at the State Theatre box office, by phone at 800-999-STATE, or on-line at the State Theatre's website. Gala Level tickets can also be bought on-line or through the Development Office at 610-258-7766 x237 or x223.
